Crawlin’ towards the Worm Moon

In the words of Leslie Jordan, “Well shit.”

Everything is still happening all the time. Violence against so many of us. We keep going to work/school/produce. What are we doing? Is there any way to break out of this hellscape?

Absolutely. I am attempting a Moon Devotion practice on Mondays. Where I will share musings from the gorgeous celestial body, whom I affectionately call Mother Moon.

This Friday, March 14th, the full moon will be gracing us again with its light. Goodie! How shall we prepare?

This Full Moon is known in North American English as the Worm Moon. Make an intuitive guess as to why…

Because wormies are waking up! The ground is warming, the ambient air is warming. Worms in the soil and the beetle larvae under the bark of trees are responding to the season change and beginning to stir. Worms may also be stirring in you, seriously, remember to cleanse love!

Shoutout to RFK.

He has worms and a racism problem. Cleanse beloved.

With this subterranean inspiration, I am called to think about what is waking up in me. Stronger self trust, a deeper commitment to decolonization in all areas of my life especially in regards to family and work. The thought of air and soil warming evoke a mindfulness on my words and my grounded-ness.

Worms are the master teacher of this week. Part of my practice will be to meditate on the wisdom of worms each day. Let’s start with their amazing contributions to the existence of life on the planet!

Worms build healthy soil by moving, eating, and making waste (LESSON ONE: You’re existence is contribution). Tunneling underground creates pores for water and air to pass through silt, sand, clay and organic matter. The air and water also support the micro bacteria and microfauna that feed plant roots and mycelium.

The Worm Moon is calling for community nourishment practices. A gentle awakening as your environment supports (IMPORTANT). The worms awaken when it is warm enough, for we all thrive in ideal conditions. What is your ideal condition and what can we gain by allowing it to be?

I feel being a human in our society, is being asked, forced to, or forcing myself to make things work around me and make me work despite things working against me. It’s infuriating and exhausting. It is unsustainable and it is cruel. No one else, as in on-human relatives, act like this on our planet.

The Worm Moon is the last full moon of winter. On March 21st, the Spring Equinox will take place. I invite you to use this week of the full moon and the last days of winter to consider your worm ways.

How are you going to stir awake slowly? What are the needs you need met, that help you build your community? Can you prioritize you more and trust that it is tremendous contribution to the whole.

Worms are a wonder. I highly encourage you to check out this video on their amazing qualities!

And as a gift from the Goddess to us all a Moon Prayer for this Worm Moon:

Creation began in the dark
Winter of deep slumber
Warmth wakes the soul
Gratitude for what has passed
to Nourish our purpose
Mother Moon, we are awaken
by your light.
Steadily, you remind us of cycles
Slumber, slow starts, feeding, being.
Creating, breathing, dying, and again.
Every tunnel is a lung.
Creation is made in the dark
